Rhino de Paris

The rhino became a theme for me in 2015 when browsing a secondhand shop, I came upon a fluorescent orange rhino piggy bank. He found a home in my studio window sill at Cité des Arts’s artist residency with the Seine in the background. Soon after, I created a large version of the rhino using black and white electrical tape directly onto my long-neglected dirty grey studio wall. When my residency concluded, and I couldn’t take the image, I began a series of linocut prints of the Rhino wall image, which became the Rhino de Paris. Since then, these prints have proliferated into a variety of colors and combinations. 20% of all sales of the Rhino de Paris go to the International Rhino Foundation, a conservation group.

Le rhinocéros est devenu un thème pour moi en 2015 lorsque, en parcourant une brocante, je suis tombé sur une tirelire rhinocéros orange fluo. Il a trouvé un foyer sur le rebord de la fenêtre de mon studio à la résidence d’artistes Cité des Arts, avec la Seine en arrière-plan. Peu de temps après, j’ai créé une grande version du rhinocéros à l’aide de ruban adhésif noir et blanc, directement sur le mur gris sale de mon atelier, longtemps négligé. Je l’ai appelé le Rhino de Paris. Lorsque ma résidence s’est terminée et que je n’ai pas pu emporter l’image avec moi, j’ai commencé une série de linogravures de l’image murale du rhinocéros. Depuis lors, ces impressions ont proliféré dans une variété de couleurs et de combinaisons. 20% de toutes les ventes du Rhino de Paris sont reversés à l’International Rhino Foundation, un groupe de conservation.
